It seems that you are trying to help the students understand how the model of the light waves is supposed to help them make sense of refraction when you ask "Now move the laser closer to the boundary. Observe what is happening at the boundary. Describe why the ‘refracted’ beam gets thicker." I am curious if the activity gave you the desired sense making? Could you share your specific learning goals either in a separate doc for teachers or add the goals to the top of the page? Also, you have good leading questions, but it seems that the students are not required to support their ideas with evidence collected from interacting with the sim. Did they give evidence because you left white space?

Hi,
The activity has always worked fine for me. Yes the students have to give evidence. I expect that teachers can figure that out for themselves, along with their own learning outcomes. Whenever I download one of these resources I ignore the supporting material and use only the resources, to suit myself, hence when I produce one, that's all I produce.

Thanks for your comments and I am glad to hear the students give evidence. Many teachers are looking for good ideas to have students show Claim, Evidence, Reasoning and I imagine your lesson will provide good ideas. thanks
