This is a well-designed activity to encourage students to relate energy levels with corresponding wavelengths and then increase their understanding as to the proper functionality of laser emission. I only modified the activity slightly for my students.

This is an excellent activity, appropriate for introductory and advanced level physics students. I utilized a 50-minute class period to complete this activity in my Medical Physics course, with students using the program individually or in pairs. I felt this activity was an excellent use of class time as it generated many good questions from my students and truly gave them a feel for the important elements of "building" a laser.
