New HTML5 Tablet-Compatible Graphing Lines Simulation

GraphingLines

We’re excited to add yet another HTML5 simulation to our growing touch/tablet-compatible mathematics collection–just in time for the 2014-2015 academic year. With the new HTML5 Graphing Lines, explore the world of lines. Investigate the relationships between linear equations, slope, and graphs of lines. Choose between the “Slope,” “Slope-Intercept” and “Point-Slope” tabs. Then challenge your knowledge in the “Line Game”!

Come See PhET at AAPT and PERC July 26-31 in Minneapolis, MN

AAPT2014

Are you going to American Association of Physics Teachers AAPT 2014 Summer Meeting in Minneapolis, MN July 26-30?

Come see talks by both users and PhET director, Kathy Perkins, Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Perkins’s talk at 2 PM on Next-Generation PhET Simulations: New Features for Teaching and Learning will feature our touch/tablet-compatible HTML5 simulations. The new HTML5 designs bring a unique opportunity to build-in advanced functionality including recording user interactions, combining tabs from multiple simulations, pre-setting simulation configurations, and enabling screen capture with annotation.

And, if you’re also attending Physics Education Research Conference PERC 2014 July 30-31, stop by and see PhET’s posters by our own Emily Moore and Kathy Perkins.

New HTML5 Tablet-Compatible Fraction Matcher Simulation!

Fraction Matcher

Try our new HTML5 tablet/browser-compatible Fraction Matcher simulation. A great way to improve fraction skills for the younger student. Match shapes and numbers to earn stars in this fractions game. Students can challenge themselves at different levels, collecting stars as they improve their fraction skills. Choose between the “Fractions” and “Mixed Numbers” tabs for more learning fun.

Come to PhET’s Workshop at the ICCE 2014 Conference

logo1

Come to PhET’s workshop, Using PhET Interactive Simulations, at the ICCE 2014 conference in Toronto, Canada on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:30 AM. Presented by PhET’s Yuen-ying Carpenter, Bryce Gruneich, and Emily Moore, this workshop will provide an introduction to our 30 chemistry simulations that support students from middle school to undergraduate levels in developing conceptual models of macroscopic and microscopic phenomena through inquiry. You’ll learn strategies for effective use for teaching and learning – highlighting specific teaching approaches that target common student difficulties and scaffold student understanding. Additionally, we will provide guidance and feedback for writing effective questions and activities around PhET simulations.

And don’t forget to stop by our booth.

Scheduled Maintenance Over the Next Few Nights

Due to some ongoing website issues, we will be performing maintenance on the PhET website over the next few nights (Mountain Daylight time). This will affect only parts of the site, specifically logging in, some activity pages, etc. It should not affect the simulations. We expect that the maintenance will last over an hour. During this time, some parts of PhET may experience periods of unavailability. If you experience persistent issues, please e-mail the PhET Help Desk at phethelp@colorado.edu.

Thanks for your patience.

Cool Off with PhET’s Under Pressure

Under Pressure

Hot outside? Looking for something that will cool you off?

Try the Under Pressure simulation and explore pressure under and above water. See how pressure changes as you change fluids, gravity, container shapes, and volume.
