Play on PhET’s Balancing Act Teeter Totter

Balancing Act

Let students explore the why’s of the playground teeter-totter with our HTML5 Balancing Act simulation. Choose from three tabs: Intro, Balance Lab and Game. Then try out what they’ve learned on the real playground.

Make Your Own Summer Drinks with PhET’s Concentration Sim

Concentration

Mix “virtual” summer drinks with the Concentration simulation. Watch your solution change color as you mix chemicals with water. Then check molarity with the concentration meter. What are all the ways you can change the concentration of your solution? Switch solutes to compare different chemicals and find out how concentrated you can go before you hit saturation!

Then have more fun by making your own lemonade or summer drink!

Fuel PhET’s Summer Work with Our End-of-School Campaign

cck-draft

Over the 2013-14 school year, we were able to redesign and publish 16 new HTML5 versions of our simulations. And, even though school’s ending, PhET will be hard at work during the summer.

So please donate today and keep this important work on track. Together, we can make the draft version of Circuit Construction Kit a reality, and bring the many other simulations to HTML5 compatibility along with a more modern look and feel.

New HTML5 Balancing Act Now Online!

Balancing Act

With the new HTML5 Balancing Act simulation, choose from three tabs: Intro, Balance Lab and Game. Play with objects on a teeter totter to learn about balance. Test what you’ve learned by trying the Balance Challenge game. Use weights, people and mystery objects to test what you’ve learned.

New HTML5 Acid-Base Solutions Simulation Now Online!

Acid-Base Solutions

We’ve added Acid-Base Solutions to our collection of HTML5 simulations. Thank you Royal Society of Chemistry for your generous donation that supported the development of this simulation. See these simulations at PhET’s site and at LearnChemistry.

How do strong and weak acids differ? Use lab tools on your computer to find out! Dip the paper or the probe into solution to measure the pH, or put in the electrodes to measure the conductivity. Then see how concentration and strength affect pH. Can a weak acid solution have the same pH as a strong acid solution?

Newest HTML5 Simulation: Under Pressure

Under Pressure

Our popular Under Pressure simulation is the latest addition to our growing collection of HTML5 simulations. Explore pressure under and above water. See how pressure changes as you change fluids, gravity, container shapes, and volume.

pH Scale for High School and Older is Now Live!

pH Scale

Test the pH of things like coffee, spit, and soap to determine whether each is acidic, basic, or neutral. Visualize the relative number of hydroxide ions and hydronium ions in solution. Switch between logarithmic and linear scales. Investigate whether changing the volume or diluting with water affects the pH. Or you can design your own liquid! See both micro and macro pictures.

Studying Concentration? Try the Beer’s Law Lab.

Beer's Law

Have you tried PhET’s HTML5 version of Beer’s Law Lab?

“The thicker the glass, the darker the brew, the less the light that passes through.” Make colorful concentrated and dilute solutions and explore how much light they absorb and transmit using a virtual spectrophotometer!

And don’t forget our Teacher Activities, including a pre-lab warm up at: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/contributions/view/3661
